Matt McGovern Head Coach 15U Rep PDMBA
Port Dover Minor Baseball is pleased to announce that Matt McGovern has been selected as the Head Coach for the U15 Rep Baseball Team for the 2026 summer season.Matt began his baseball journey with the Ottawa Nepean Canadians in the Premier Baseball League of Ontario, playing from ages 15 to 18. He then earned a scholarship to Monroe Community College in Rochester, New York, where he played for two years. In his first season, he achieved a pitching record of 12-0, helping his team finish 6th in the nation. In his second year, the team ranked 3rd nationally, and Matt received multiple accolades, including All-District, All-Region, and All-American Honours, as well as All-Canadian Honours from Baseball Canada. Following Monroe, Matt transferred to the University of North Carolina at Pembroke on a full NCAA Division II scholarship.

There, he posted a 9-0 record in his first year, earning All-District, All-Region, and All-American Honours once again, along with a second consecutive All-Canadian Honours award. In his final season, he went 9-2, received All-District and All-Region Honours for a third straight year, and was an honourable mention for the All-American Finalist list.During the summer, Matt played in the Coastal Plain League—a premier U.S. collegiate summer league—for the Fayetteville SwampDogs, where he was selected to the First All-Star Team. He also represented Team Ontario at the Canadian Nationals on two occasions, competing in Manitoba and Quebec City.After college, Matt continued his baseball career in the Intercounty Baseball League (IBL), a semi-professional league in Southern Ontario. Over 12 seasons, he played for the Ottawa Fat Cats (2010–2012), Kitchener Panthers (2013–2017), and Brantford Red Sox (2018–2022). In his final two seasons in Brantford, he served as the team’s Field Manager, responsible for in-game decisions such as setting the lineup, managing pitching changes, and overseeing game strategy.Matt’s versatility as a pitcher, fielder, and batter made him an asset throughout his playing career. Now, he’s excited to bring his experience and passion to Port Dover’s U15 Rep team, guiding athletes born in 2011 and 2012 toward a Southern Counties Championship and a strong showing at the 2026 OBAs.
