Coaches Code of Conduct

Port Dover Minor Baseball Association Objectives:

1.      To promote sports and sportsmanship through the development of baseball in Port Dover.

2.      To provide a safe environment in which all players have the right to play.

3.      To protect and promote the mutual interest of its players

4.      To manage and regulate House League and Representative Divisions, their players, coaches, umpires and scheduling.

We, the Port Dover Minor Baseball Association have implemented the following Sport Coaches Code of Conduct for the important message it holds regarding both Coach expectations throughout the baseball season as well as, the Associations commitment to a desired level of excellence in coaching delivery and promoting a supportive environment for our coaches and players.

The relationship between a coach and an athlete is a special one; coaches play a very critical role in the development of players, both athletically and personally.  The objectives of the Port Dover Minor Baseball Association are channeled through the coaches; therefore, how an athlete regards his or her time with Port Dover Minor Baseball can be reflective of their coach.

I therefore agree:

1.      I acknowledge that being a coach means being reasonable; players develop at different rates.

2.      I will teach the players to play by the rules; just as I play by the rules.

3.      I will be constructive in my criticism’ followed by praise for things done right.

4.      I will give every player the same opportunity.

5.      I recognise that baseball is a big commitment for parents.  I will keep our team parents informed as well as possible to ensure that the whole team is pulling in the same direction.

6.      I understand that I am not alone in this position as a coach and will illicit the support of PDMBA to assist in the resolution of problems, issues and/or disputes.

7.      I will treat each player as an individual, remembering the large range of emotional and physical development for the same age group.

8.      I will act professionally and take responsibility for my actions.

9.      I will ensure my language, manner, punctuality, preparation and presentation demonstrate the high standard of PDMBA.

10.  I will exert my influence to enhance sportsmanship by my fellow coaching staff, players, parents and those associated with my team with special emphasis on respecting the rights, dignity and worth of athletes, coaches, other volunteers, friends and spectators.

11.  I will place the emotional and physical well-being of my platers ahead of my desire to win.

12.  I will respect and support the officials.  I will not indulge in conduct which would incite players or spectators against the officials.

I acknowledge that penalties as laid out in the OBA and PDMBA rules for non compliance will be imposed and agree to comply with such penalties subject to any appeal procedures that are available to me.
